did you rename the install folder and if you could post your url here so we can check what can be wrong about it,
also u may want to turn the errors and warnings on in php.ini

Message: I think I figured it out... I had open_basedir enabled so the script could not get into the other directories.

Message: Install page refuses to admit that folder templates_c is chmodded to 777, therefore the installation is stuck at that point!
